Time Just the Girls Volume 2 is a 30 song compilation that offers one track
each from many of the all (or mostly) girl bands on the long running independnet
label Sympathy for the Record Industry.
Boston band Downbeat 5 kick off the comp with Radiates That Charm, a garage styled tune with organ and a Pandoras-like kick.
The Stuck-Ups tune Anywhere But Here has 1977 styled buzzsaw guitars and "Woah-oh-oh" wordless backing vocals.
Thr drums in Tina & the Total Babes' Tongue Tied are as crazy as Tiger Trap's Heather Dunn - the most Kieth Moon styled drummer I can think of. Despite a little bit too much guitar soloing for my taste, this song has stuck in my head for days, and is one of my favorites on the disc.
The Fondas' Yeah Baby has vocals that may remind you of Josie Cotton's classic 80s track Johnny Are You Queer?, along with a nifty handclapping part.
Tough Guys, by Tuuli, exudes the hopeful pop sound of 80s bands like Go-Gos or Bangles, and is really catchy to boot.
Helen Love's Debbie Loves Joey sounds as good as ever on this comp. This band seems to write great songs all the time!
Ludella Black's cover of Beatles' I've Just Seen a Face is nothing like her work in A-Lines or Thee Headcoatees. It is quite a fine interpretation.
There are rock, pop, punk, blues and country styled songs on the disc. There are so many tracks with different styles, that it is almost guaranteed that anyone can find enough tracks they like to make this a decent purchase.
