incredible Vince Ray sleeve
and a cover of the 1981 Pigbag classic Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag make
this 3 track 12" pretty darn fine.
I avoided checking this out for the longest time after reading a review that said that Los Chicharrons changed everything except the horn part, effectively killing all the good stuff while only keeping the annoying aspect of the original.
After listening to this 12" I can say that I disagree. I have always liked Los Chicharrons. I enjoyed their 'Conga Heaven, Bongo Hell' debut and its recent follow-up 'Blow For Me, Blow For You'.
Los Chicharrons seem like a band who take the hip sound of The Dave Pike Set (see Patrick's review in the February 26 gullbuy) to the present. The band is centered upon Ramon Santana and Morten Hansen.
The sound they make is very funky with a dance and sexy feel that place them comfortably in the Tummy Touch stable. This 12" has an exclusive original You'll Never Know, which I like a lot too.
