Sluts 'n Strings & 909
title:: Carrera
label:: Cheap Entertainment
format:: CD
The 1997 CD that was the basis for a remix record that came out on Cheap. 'Carrera remixed' was reviewed in the Sep. 25 gullbuy without me ever having heard the original.
'Carrera' was the third release on Cheap. Cheap is a label from Vienna Austria that is basically run by Patrick Pulsinger and E. Tanaka, who are Sluts'n'Strings & 909.
Gerhard Potuznik plays on two cuts, both of which are among my favorites. He plays bass on Put Me On (#2) and vocals on Past The Gates (#4), a song which sounds extremely contemporary, like a male Miss Kittin. I also like the cut It's A Blast! (#3) with the vocal samples that remind me of the character Trash Can in Stephen King's The Stand.
Dear Trevor (#8) is a jazzy instrumental with neat electronic beats and clever parts that has the dry sound which characterizes the coolest records on Cheap. I now understand why they chose to make a remix version, and I still can say I haven't met a record on Cheap that I didn't like.
