After
enjoying the Atjazz CD in the Septermer 18 gullbuy I figured it would be
a good thing to buy this 12inch.
Mantis Recordings is a label run by Atjazz. There are not many releases on the label, so it seemed a good bet that the sound might be as pleasing as Atjazz.
Kimbu Kimra is the vocalist's name. She is from Atlanta Georgia here in the US. There are 4 remixes of the track Raise The Dead.
The Atjazz remix is also on the 'Future Sound Of Jazz Vol. 7' comp. The Love From San Francisco (LFSF) dub mix also appears on the compilation Form and Function. There is another LFSF remix and a mix from Fred Everything as well.
The sound here is well produced with a sophisticated feel. It does not veer too closely to the nu-jazz territory that Compost releases can go to.
Kimbu Kimra seem like a really spirited band that mix African and Latin sound into an organic house groove.
