2xLP / VARIOUS / Across Uneven Terrain / Fatcat

Double record compilation by the prestigious London label FatCat. This is the label that has been putting out the series of split 12"s with white covers that have no graphics except bullet or BB marks that the label-folk shoot through the sleeves before they put the records in them. Recently they have started putting out 12"s with plain silvery-grey sleeves instead of the shot through white ones. The music Fatcat releases is always quite challenging, and is fun to listen to: it is not just a task in out-wierding and going one step further each time. We have a FatCat 12" in the NCP playlist right now with remixes of songs by the German band Various Artists.

12" / PRAM / Keep in a Dry Place& Away From Children / Domino

3 instrumentals that sound extremely modern while remaining distinctly Pram. The second song on the A-side is a Mouse On Mars remix of the first song. It is different enough that it earns its own title. The title song of this 12" is a soundtrack to a film of the same name, and it fills the B-side.

CD / TURBONEGRO / Apocalypse Dudes / Man's Ruin

Strongly recommended by Pip, and living up to his claims. They are from Norway (where they are known as Turbojugend), and they 'Rawk', while having strong Ramone and Alice Cooper influences. In fact, one song ("Get It On") sounds like a blend of The Ramones song "I Just Wanna Have Something To Do Tonight" with Alice Coopers "Eighteen".

CD / KIM FOWLEY / Animal God Of The Street / Skydog

Kim Fowley, who was born in Manilla (Philipines), has been around for a long time and is more popular for those whose work he has touched than for his own work http://www.stroch.net/kim.cfm Kim produced the Modern Lovers on the LP we currently have on our playlist (The Original Modern Lovers, released on Bomp). Songs on this disc (there are 9 songs) were recorded 1969-71. All are originals except for one, which is a Link Wray cover ("Rumble").

Debut single by this Glasgow band who have a touch of the Delgados in their sound, and who are on the same label as Mac Meda, who we have both 7"s of. Pop with male and female vocals, and a touch of keyboard.

Local band from Swampscott MA, on the same label that put out the last Trollin Withdrawal 7".

The Bobbyteens borrow liberally from the Rolling Stones song "Brown Sugar" on "Rock-N-Roll Show", though they have their own sound in there as well.

This Scottsdale AZ band sounds like an Olympia WA female punk rock band.

Gypsophile also has a 3" CD released on the great US label Radio Khartoum. He plays music that is as influenced by modern home recording as it is by Serge Gainsbourg.
