September 21- 27, 1998
CD / Kreidler / Weekend / Kiff /
very intruiging and interesting German band named after the motorcycle. Kreidler
uses space, not clutter to draw you in. Influenced by Der Plan, Neu, and Cluster.
I find #'s 3,4,& 7 irresistible. /
LP / Snow Patrol / Songs for Polarbears / Jeepster /
Even stronger release than I expected. Has the A sides of the last 2 singles,
but lots of other songs are really strong as well. To the unititiated, Snow
Patrol are a UK band on the Belle & Sebastian label "jeepster". They
were originally called Polarbear, until the CA band released stuff under
that name. The vocals sometimes sound uncannily like Lou Barlow, but without
the emotional baggage. Snow Patrol interprets US music through a European
sensability.
LP / Ma Cherie For Painting / Una Producion Pop / Earworm /
This is their first full length after several 7"'s and compilation EP appearances.
They play instrumentals consistent with the Earworm" sound, which is space,
but not the generic ho-hum variety
10" / Ellis Island Sound / Ellis Island Sound / All City London
/
a side project band of The Wisdom Of Harry and State River Widening. There
are 4 instrumentals on this 10", and each is charming.
magazine w/7" EP / Panasonic w/ Alan Vega, Volume Versus Masses, & Panasonic
w/ FM Einheit / Obsessive Eye /
Alan Vega puts words to one of Panasonic's minimalist electronic pieces, quite
successfully. Also has a piece by VVM, who put out that great split 12" w/3rd
Eye Foundation on the unmarked white sleeve series done by the UK label "Fat
Cat". The magazine that comes with it is pretty neat too.
